Jesus Loves Me

Jesus Loves Me

Sometimes it takes a children’s hymn to remind us of the truth about Jesus’ love for us. So that’s where we are going to go today— back to the basics, back to child-like faith, and back to the reminder that Jesus loves us dearly.

This hymn is one of the most popular Christian hymns around the world. It was first written as a poem, but was then composed by William Bradbury in 1862. Its simple and direct message can be a comfort to all people—young and old alike. I think we all need to be reminded of the simple, but profound message of Jesus and His great love for us.

Jesus loves me this I know
For the bible tells me so

As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love. These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full. “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you. These things I command you, so that you will love one another. John 15:9-17

Little ones to Him belong
They are weak but He is strong

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong. 2 Corinthians 12:9-10

Jesus loves me He who died
Heaven's gate to open wide

Jesus said to her, "Your brother will rise again." Martha said to him, "I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day." Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?" She said to him, "Yes, Lord; I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who is coming into the world." John 11:23-27

He will wash away my sin
Let His little child comes in

But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. Titus 3:4-7

I pray we would have child-like faith and rest in Jesus’ love. The Bible tells us that God loves each and every one of us, even though we have faults and fall short of His glory. I pray we would all be comforted by the lyrics of this hymn and remember that the Creator of the universe, Who knows every fiber of our being, is mighty and loves us beyond compare.

Reflection/Prayer: Spend some time in prayer, thanking God for dealing with us, His children, in a loving way. Thank Him for defining what love is through Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. Pray that you would love others in the same way He has loved you.

If you don’t know this love for yourself, would you consider surrendering your life to Him today? If you have questions about this, or want to talk to someone, please reach out to me and I would love to talk or get you connected with someone who can walk through this with you.
